“She rules her life like a bird in flight…” -Rhiannon by Stevie Nicks
Last night I dressed up as the infamous rock star, and my personal fashion icon, Stevie Nicks. I made a decision to dress as Stevie only a couple hours before the costume party I was going to started. Right after making my decision, I hopped out of bed and walked over to my closet and effortlessly picked out what I thought the Rock N’ Roll Queen herself would wear.
Unlike most days where I try on a million tops and pants combinations, creating what looks like the aftermath of a tornado on my bedroom floor, I was able to grab the perfect outfit in just a few minutes. As pictured above, I am rocking some bellbottoms, a flowy bell sleeved top, a dark blue velvet vest, a floppy hat and a couple of scarves (one around my neck and another that I tied around my hips). I matched the look with all of the long necklaces, bangles, and rings that I owned. For a second I thought, “Is this too much?” and then I shortly realized that rockstars don’t care if something is “too much”. They wear it anyway.
Isn’t that such a lovely concept? The idea that no other opinion should matter over your own. To confidently wear whatever you want, and be whoever you are. No apologies. No self doubt.
I am a big admirer of Stevie; not only for the unworldly, witchy music that she creates, but for her individuality. As soon as I put on that outfit last night, I decided to not only dress like her but emulate her mentality as well. And let me tell you… I felt like a total badass. I actually caught myself saying out loud “I wish I could dress like this every day”. The thing is I can and so can you.
Stevie Nicks says it best: “You can go your own way”. Don’t be afraid to flaunt what makes you unique with confidence. There’s nothing I find more eye-catching than the attitude that an individual rocks with their look, whatever it may be.
